Who is Nancy Gardner?
Nancy Gardner
is our expert on the issues of the divorced, separated and widowed, the abused, the needy and others who are marginalized, outcast or neglected.
Nancy joined the Good News Ministries team in 1998. She was certified by the Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute of the Diocese of St. Petersburg in 2005 with a specialty in evangelizing inactive Catholics. As a survivor of childhood abuse and two divorces, she has taken a long journey of healing, and she gives a powerful testimony inspiring others to find God's healing graces for any situation.
Nancy has partnered with Terry Modica to explain an oft-overlooked phenomenon of evangelization that affects as many as two-thirds of the people we want to reach: Evangelizing the wounded usually fails because the language of God's love is misinterpreted as co-dependent attachments that hurt, demand, manipulate and control. In a two-part presentation, Nancy and Terry give an inside look at recognizing and overcoming the misconceptions the paralyze wounded hearts.
Nancy also has helped Good News Ministries as coordinator of our tape ministry (back in our pre-digital days) and with her talented gift of music.
A "cradle" Catholic, Nancy was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1955. She came from a poor Italian family with eight brothers and sisters. They moved to Florida in 1966. As a child, she had a very special relationship with God and a beautiful gift of singing that comforted her and calmed the turmoil around her. Eventually, the troubles she endured created wrong ideas about who God is and how much He loved her.
After an eight-year absence from the faith, it was her gift of music that brought her back to God. She joined the church choir and became active in this for 20 years, playing guitar, singing solos, and directing.
Nancy turned to God to help her overcome the hardships of codependency, divorce, recovery from abuse and other difficulties in her life. Today, her story tells how much Jesus cares and how greatly He longs to heal the wounds of our sufferings.
