In modern times, instead of stoning people with rocks, we stone them with paper and pens in our court rooms. There is no difference in God's eyes. Judging is judging. We don't even have to take someone to court to commit this sin. If judgmentalism is in our heart, we're sinning. The briefcase in the foreground contains files labeled with the seven deadly sins. Jesus is the only one who has the right to judge the woman, yet He is diverting his eyes away from the gavel that has fallen on the floor beside Him. He has already forgiven her. The adulterous woman knows she has been forgiven by God, but she is looking at you, asking, "What are you going to do?" Do you want to live with unforgiveness and let hatred bring nothing but misery to your life? Or do you want to forgive, thus finding joy and peace. I often see the bumper sticker that says, "If you want peace, work for justice." You could also say: "If you want peace, learn to forgive." |
"Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." (John 8:7)
