DENIED

This picture not only speaks about our doors being locked, it represents our hearts being locked. They are closed to "the least" in our society, but also to everyone who does not live up to our expectations. When someone lets us down, we retaliate. Some retaliate violently, but most do it passively. A wife might purposely burn the dinner for her husband who makes it a habit of not calling when he's going to be late. When we get upset, if our spouse asks what's wrong, we say "nothing!" and then sleep on 18 inches of bed with our back turned from the spouse. Other times we simply ignore people.

These are just a few of the many acts of passive aggression we do to one another simply because they disappoint us or we perceive them to be somehow inferior to us. Twelve-Step programs use the Serenity Prayer: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change (other people), courage to change the things I can (me), and wisdom to know the difference." God is calling us to love each other, to love everyone the way they are, and to let God do the changing.

"I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for the least of these, you did not do for Me."
(Matthew 25:45)
