See how partners like you helped me minister to folks in Texas!
 At the beginning of Lent, I journeyed on two airplanes and then a two-hour car ride to a wee small town in the middle of dought-inflicted farms in Texas. My mission: to give a Lenten retreat at a poor parish that had never been blessed by a mission speaker before.
Thanks to our Good News partners who've made donations in recent months, I was able to receive from the parish a speakers fee that was much lower than what my time was worth.
The topic of the retreat was "Four Levels of Mystical Prayer", presented over the course of four evenings. Many traveled long distances from their farms to attend, and the turn-out was great for such a small parish — and it remained so all four evenings!
The retreat was modeled after the four sets of mysteries of the Rosary. Day 1 was on how to live in mystical union with the joy of Christ no matter what hardships we face. Day 2 covered the prayer of action which is unity to the ministry of Christ and which springs from our hardships that now become blessings for others. Day 3 revealed how the Dark Night of the Soul is union with the Christ's Passion and Cross. And Day 4 left everyone inspired to meet the challenge of living solely for the glory of God.
The third session ended with a powerful experience of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and nearly everyone went to Confession. As I sat in the back of the church absorbing the sacredness of the moment, my heart was deeply moved by what I was witnessing.
As I write this, I am still praising God for the joy of having had the opportunity to serve his people this way in that place.
