Session #9
Mary, Spouse of the Holy Spirit

When we consecrate ourselves to the Blessed Mother

Question for discussion (please post a comment):
There is no real value in consecrating ourselves to the Blessed Mother if we are not interested in being Christ’s partner in changing the world by letting the Holy Spirit work through us to help others. Why not?

C.J. shares:

Thank you for sharing about consecrating ourselves to Jesus through his mother. He came to us through His mother as a tiny child. That boggles my mind; I have a new one-month-old grandchild. Makes you realize just how needy Jesus was — how very much He loved us to humble himself so.

Don’t wait until January; consecrate yourselves now. Mary needs you in her army leading all her children back to her Son. Every year, you should reconsecrate yourselves, and Jan. 1st would be an ideal time to do so. I did mine 20 years ago for the first time. Today when I look back and see all the miracles in my life, I know Mary was interceding for each one along the way. I had a husband and daughter who were away from the faith for a long time. My husband came back and died on Divine Mercy Sunday, and I truly believe went straight to heaven; my priest had a homily at his funeral about that. My daughter came back, married a wonderful Catholic man, teaches Natural Family Planning. and just had a beautiful baby, Faustina.

C.F. answers with this:

Mary is not ‘stand alone’. She is the Immaculate Conception — conceived without sin. Her heart is connected to the Sacred Heart of Jesus; hence, when we consecrate ourselves to her, we are consecrating ourselves to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Hence, without a deep desire to do the will of God in our life, there is no sense in consecrating ourselves to our Blessed Mother.

I consecrate myself to you, dear Mother. I lift up all my needs, desires and petitions to you. And you bring them to my Saviour. Pray for me, dear Mother, that if what the Lord wants seems too difficult for me, I will not falter but trust completely in Him and know that you are near.
