Prayers - Crochet Directions - crocheted rosaryHere’s a rosary you can carry in your pocket — crochet it, and it will never tangle or break!

MATERIALS: Use thin yarn or crochet cotton, with small needle (such as size B).

TO MAKE THE CROSS:
Chain (ch) 9 stitches, double crochet (dc) in 5th ch from hook, ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch (should be the last ch). Chain 9, repeat as before with dc in every other ch. Chain 9, repeat as before. Chain 13, repeat as before using dc five times to end of chain. Join to corner of first arm of the cross using slip stitch (sl st). To fill in the center of the cross, single crochet (sc) in 2 places at inner edge of each of the 4 arms. For second row, sl st in every other stitch (4 times). end off.

TO MAKE ROSARY “BEADS”:
Attach yarn to top stitch in cross, chain 3, make half double crochet (hdc) in second ch from hook (by pulling yarn through all three loops on hook), make 3 more hdc in same ch, join to first stitch on opposite side of the ball being formed (i.e., join to bottom stitch of first hdc) using sl st. Chain 4, hdc in second ch from hook 2 times, join as before, ch 2, repeat small ball, ch 2, repeat small ball, ch 4.

Now make a triangle: dc in third ch from hook three times, ch 3, turn, dc in first stitch from ch, dc two times in next stitch, dc once in next stitch.

To begin first decade: ch 3, make small ball, ch 2, repeat small ball and ch 2 until you have 10 balls. Chain 4, make large ball, ch 4, repeat 10 small balls for second decade. Repeat ch 4 on both sides of large ball between decades, for all 5 decades. After last small ball, ch 2, join to free corner of triangle using sl st, end off. Using yarn needle, hide ends of yarn under stitches.

Do you have a crochet pattern for a rosary made up of crochet flowers? My 99 year old Mom says it and wants desperately to make it. I cannot find a pattern anywhere. Please help. Thanks you so much. God Bless. SPR.
