The Fifth Sorrowful Mystery

THE CRUCIFIXION

Crucifixion of JesusWe meditate on the sufferings that Jesus endured during his crucifixion, using the Mass for the Forgiveness of Sins from the Bishops’ Plenary Meeting held in Dallas on June 15, 2002.

Jonah 3:1-10 — The Ninevites turned from their evil ways.
Romans 6:2-14 — Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as being dead to sin and living for God.
Matthew 9:1-8 — They glorified God who had given such authority to men.

Lord,
be merciful to your people
and free us from our sins.
May your loving forgiveness
keep us safe
from the punishment we deserve.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, amen.

Bishop Gregory’s invitation to the National Conference of Catholic Bishops:

In a spirit of repentance for our sins and with trust that God will give us the grace to more closely follow the model of Christ the Good Shepherd, let us conclude our meeting by renewing our commitment to priestly service. On the day of our ordination as priests we were called to conform ourselves to the cross of Christ. May these days be the beginning of a new dawn of priestly holiness in our country and in our world.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

pray the Rosary bead

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory Be ...

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen!

For those who have sinned within or against vocations …

Together we pray:

Rosary: Oh My Jesus

Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins,
save us from the fires of hell;
lead all souls to Heaven,
especially those most in need of Your Mercy.
