This stone panel teaches us the importance of prayer. It depicts Saint Augustine with his mother, Saint Monica, who had prayed many years for his conversion. After her death at the Roman seaport of Ostia (the symbol of the ship), Augustine did convert. Here he is also seen offering a Mass for her soul after becoming a priest.
