7 Saints who explained the Assumption

When Pope Pius XII formally defined the dogma of Mary's Assumption, he cited the teachings of these seven Saints.

Saint Anthony of Padua (1195-1231) was a Franciscan monk and Doctor of the Church (Feast Day June 13).

Saint Bonaventure (1221 – 1274) was a Franciscan Bishop and Doctor of the Church (Feast day-July 15)

Saint Albert the Great (1193?-1280) was a Dominican theologian, philosopher, and scientist. (Feast Day November 15)

Saint Bernardine of Siena (1380-1444) was a reknowned theologion and preacher. He is called the Doctor of the Heart of Mary due to his writings on Mary's heart. (Feast Day May 20)

Saint Robert Bellarmine (1542-1621) was a Jesuit Bishop, Confessor and Doctor of the Church (Feast Day September 17)

Saint Francis De Sales (1567-1622) was a Bishop of Geneva, Switzerland, and a Doctor of the Church. He founded the Visitation Order. (Feast Day January 24)

Saint Peter Canisius (1521-1597) was a Dutch Jesuit and Doctor of the Church. During the Reformation, he explained both practical and pragmatic rationale for Marian devotion and defended them well against opposing Protestant arguments. (Feast Day December 21)
