Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton (1774-1821) founded St. Joseph's Convent and School in Emmitsburg, Maryland. She was the first native-born citizen of the United States to be canonized a Saint (Feast Day January 4). The National Shrine celebrating her life and sainthood, located in Emmitsburg, is not far from our Cathedral.
