Saint Bartholomew
This Apostle was probably a close friend of the Saint Philip. It is Philip who introduced him to Jesus.
He is called Bartholomew in the Gospels of Saints Matthew, Mark, and Luke. He is called Nathaniel (or Nathanael) in the Gospel of John. Probably, Bartholomew was his last name. The name Bartholomaios means "son of Talmai", an ancient Hebrew name.
St. Bartholomew is shown with a book representing the Gospel he followed and preached and a knife indicating how he was martyred.
He is the patron saint of neurological diseases and nervous disorders.
His feast day is August 24. |
