St. Matthew

Saint Matthew

St. Matthew was a thieving tax collector, represented in this statue by a money bag in his right hand, before he heard Jesus preach. He responded by repenting and choosing to follow Jesus to learn more from him. He later wrote the Gospel according to Matthew.

He is shown with a battle ax, because it's believed that he was martyred by beheading.

He is the patron saint of accountants, bankers, bookkeepers, financial officers, guards, stock brokers, and tax collectors

His feast day is September 21.
