Saint Elizabeth Anne Seton (1774-1821) was a widow and mother who founded the first American sisterhood, the Daughters of Charity (Feast Day January 4th). She was canonized on September 14, 1975, the first native-born citizen of the United States to be recognized for her sainthood.
