Cathedrals commonly have shrines. Usually, they are close to the main altar, as is ours. An ambulatory (walkway) behind and around the sanctuary allows visitors or pilgrims to visit the shrines without disturbing Mass if it's going on at the time.

We have two shrines: The Shrine of St. Charles Borromeo (to see this, use the Tour Map) and The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

This photo shows the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. If you were to turn right, following the ambulatory, you'd quickly reach the entrance to the Lady Chapel.

When Pope John Paul II visited the Cathedral in 1995, he took time to pray in our Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Won't you take a moment to pray here, too?

Mary, I need your assistance. You are a mother who shelters and prays for us. You are the model for those who want to be faithful followers of Christ. Above all, I want you to help me grow closer to your Son Jesus.
