ScripturesActs 18:23-28
Ps 47:2-3,8-10
John 16:23b-28

"Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you." (From Saturday's Gospel reading)

Today’s Prayer:
My Lord: pour Your anointing upon me, so whomever I encounter on my way may recognize Your presence amidst us. Amen.

Reflection for Saturday:
Faith-building miracles of the Holy Spirit

Holy SpiritTo bring our wayward loved ones back to Christ and to evangelize non-believers in today's world, we have to rely heavily on the Holy Spirit. It is only the Holy Spirit who can change hearts and minds. (In 1977, my stubborn convictions about the occult were converted to the truth after I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.)

But how do we get people to pay attention to the Holy Spirit? Throughout the Book of Acts, we see how the early Christians did it: They were very active in their prayer lives, with praise, worship and teachings in gatherings of Spirit-filled church communities -- so much so that miracles happened frequently. The supernatural manifestations of the Holy Spirit got people's attention.

For modern-day examples, read Rina Manuel's testimonies @

The Holy Spirit is coming to shelter us and renew us in God's Great Glory. Watch for it! Ask for it. Be ready. Everything that the Devil has stolen from the Kingdom of God is going to be restored double, 10-fold, even 100-fold. This is the way of God. Look past the evils that have been angering you or frightening you; on the other side is answered prayers from the Glory of God!

Inside the Ministry: Time to recharge

a river to relax byThis past week I've been on vacation. My brother Kurt and his wife Sue drove down to Florida from South Carolina to serve Mom as caregivers so that Ralph and I could receive the gift of time off. (I wrote this a week early.)

It's our first vacation in a couple of years (due to the coronavirus). However, we've given the Lord opportunities to recharge us every week: daily Mass, one-night local getaways, hanging out with friends, going on a parish retreat, turning off the news, and the like.

What have you been doing to experience the peace and joy of the Lord during the past many stressful months? It's necessary! We cannot attract others to Christ while we look tired, fearful, and stressed out. Non-believers and ex-believers are more ready for a spiritual revival now than they've ever been. They're getting as tired of evil as you and I are. Or they soon will be.

If one of them looks at you, will they see someone who has overcome the stresses that they'd like to escape? If yes, then be ready to explain the reason for your joy. If no, then take time out and go on a vacation with Jesus, even if it's in your own back yard.

Next Smart Event: Tuesday's Rosary for Conversions

Pray the Luminous Mysteries of the RosaryThis Tuesday May 18th, let's join up to pray the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary for the conversions of your loved ones who have been rejecting Christ, and for the lost loved ones who are sorrowing your brothers and sisters in the Church, and for your neighbors, and for politicians and other influencers who have been working against Christ, and for everyone who has been enslaved by the Devil throughout the whole world.

The special prayers added to this Rosary for Conversions will activate your faith to bring you into a higher level of serving as the Light of Christ in our darkened world.
Each mystery and it's special prayers will be posted on May 18th at SmartCatholics. As you complete each decade of the Rosary, post a comment (even if just "Amen!" or "Done!"). Feel free to also share the names of people you're praying for, so that the community will join you in praying for them.

Mark your calendars!

3 ways to un-stifle the Holy Spirit (podcast)

Here’s a secret the devil does not want you to know — why he wants to stifle your relationship with the Holy Spirit. He’s afraid of what you will do!

It’s time we reclaimed what is rightfully ours as followers of Christ: a faith that works miracles. A faith that fulfills the promises made by Jesus! Read the Bible — the New Testament — to find all the times when the supernatural happened and ask, “Is this happening in my life?” And if the answer is no ask, “Why not?” The answer is in your relationship with the Holy Spirit.

In this podcast, I name 8 ways that we stifle the Spirit and identify 3 ways to un-stifle the Spirit.

Listen to this podcast @ Or if you prefer to read it, a transcript is available.

God bless you with an amazing Pentecost!

Every morning, I lift up in prayer everyone who helps Good News Ministries in any way (donors, volunteers, prayer supporters, etc.) and all the prayer requests posted on our site.

9-Day Consecration to St. Joseph9-Day Consecration to St. Joseph

Each day of this novena contains a brief story about various apparitions of St. Joseph, with special prayers.

With this consecration, we seal ourselves as his children. We place into his fatherly protection ourselves, our families, our jobs and ministries, and the Church. We also consecrate to his fatherhood those who are not following Christ, especially our own family members, because Joseph’s desire in heaven is that all of his children love his son, Jesus, and follow him to everlasting life.

A Meditation on the Passion of Christ Through the Eyes of Peter and Judas

Written with a powerfully life-changing twist, this is not the usual Passion story. “Forgiven” shows the passion of Christ as seen through the eyes of Peter and Judas. Each react in different ways to the final days and crucifixion of Jesus. One chooses forgiveness and the other ends his life in terrible guilt.

The story ends with the reunion of Jesus and Peter after the resurrection when Jesus calls Peter to become the first leader of the Church.

This is a fictional account based on the true events of the Passion of Jesus Christ, for the purpose of meditation.
