Insider’s View is the weekly newsletter of Good News Ministries. It always includes a reflection for Saturday’s scriptures of Catholic Mass. Plus the latest happenings in Good News Ministries.
Terry Modica, CEO and one of the founders of Good News Ministries, shares news from “Inside the Ministry”.
Do you fully understand why?
Mass ends with a final blessing that is meant to send us back home to our domestic church (and from there, out into the world) so full of Christ that we spread his light into the world of darkness.
During the pandemic’s lockdown, the domestic church has taken on renewed meaning. Participating in Mass online instead of in person stretches the imagination when we pray, “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” We’re making a statement of faith. We’re implying (if we understand our Catholic Faith): “Lord, although I cannot now receive You Who are truly and fully present — body and blood — in the Holy Eucharist, I long to receive You. Come to me! Come and enter under the roof of my house and fill me to overflowing with Your Holy Presence!”
And it’s more than that. Whether we receive Jesus in the bread that supernaturally becomes the true Body of Christ or by making a spiritual communion, we bring Jesus into our homes. And we are not worthy because we tend to sin more often against those with whom we live than with anyone else. Right?
Of course Jesus always answers us with an enthusiastic: “YES! By the grace provided in this Sacrament, I do choose to make you worthy. Receive Me fully and be My Body and Blood in your home.” And with the help of the Holy Spirit, we become better at remaining longer and longer in that state of grace, despite temptations and hardships and the unChrist-like ways that others treat us.
