December 1 – Saint Eligius

Saint Eligius

listenDear Father, Saint Eligius (588-660) earned his livelihood as a metalsmith and he performed his skill so well that his reputation brought in a large income.  Dedicating his wealth to You, he used it to help the poor, ransom slaves, and build churches.  I ask him to pray for my family members and friends who work in the business world.  Remind us, O God, to make friendship with You our highest priority.  Help us to be aware that we are in partnership with You in our jobs.  Bless our efforts, our co-workers, and our income.  Deliver us from all anxieties as we rely on You in everything we do.  Saint Eligius, pray for us.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

Blessed Charles de Foucauld (1858-1916)
Feast day December 1

quoteEvery instant of our lives must be accepted as a favor, with all that it brings of happiness and suffering. But we must accept the cross with more gratitude than anything else. Our crosses detach us from earth and therefore draws us closer to God.”

quoteFaith renders meaningless such words as anxiety, danger, and fear, so that the believer goes through life calmly and peacefully, with profound joy, like a child hand in hand with his mother.”
