St. Elizabeth of Portugal was wed to King Denis of Portugal. After his death, she retired as a Franciscan tertiary to the monastery of the Poor Clares, where she brought about a lasting peace between her son Alfonso, now king of Portugal, and his son-in-law, the king of Castile. Therefore, she is the patron saint of peacemaking.
