Mary the Mother of Christ suffered with Jesus when he was crucified. Above her is depicted the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which bore so much love for you that he took your sins to the cross. On the right, a Roman soldier is shown with the lance that pierced Jesus' side; from it flowed blood and water: the life-giving blood that we receive at Mass in the Eucharist, into which the priest pours water during the transubstantiation of the wine into the Precious Blood of Jesus.
