St. Joseph: A Model of Humility and Strength
Today, March 19th, is the Solemnity of St. Joseph, a day set aside to honor and remember the life and heroic witness of Christ’s earthly father. Often, many people draw attention to the fact that St. Joseph never spoke a single word in scripture, yet played such an important role in the life of Christ. But perhaps that is what makes his witness and intercession so powerful.
Joseph’s humility is on display from the moment Christ is miraculously conceived. When the circumstances regarding Mary’s pregnancy at first seemed out of place, he didn’t rush to judgement but rather chose to keep matters out of the public eye, and “divorce her quietly (cf Matt 1:19).” Then when the Archangel Gabriel explained the situation, Joseph was docile enough to respond to God’s will for not only his life but fully embraced the important role he’d play in God’s plan for humanity. Without speaking a word, he was humble enough to recognize and respond to God’s call.
Joseph also possessed a tenacious strength. When King Herod sought to kill Jesus and demonstrated the lengths to which he would go to seek his life, Joseph protected His family. When he received this message in a dream, he acted quickly and decisively, adapting to rapidly changing circumstances. Without speaking a word, he acted with courage and fortitude and led his family away from danger.
We can learn so much from the heroic example of St. Joseph. Perhaps this is why the church declares him the patron saint of the Universal Church: when called upon, he will be there to protect her at any cost. In addition, families, fathers, the unemployed, realtors, and carpenters also can call St. Joseph their patron and role model.
Today, I encourage you to ask Joseph to intercede in your life, for your family, for the Universal Church, and for Good News Ministries. If you feel called to go deeper and consecrate yourself to his patronage, I encourage you to check out this Novena Consecration to St. Joseph, authored by Terry Modica.

The Father You’ve Been Missing
A woman in her 70s told me something after reading my book on “The Father’s Heart” that I’ll never forget. She said it opened up an entirely new relationship with God the Father — and she wished she had discovered it years earlier.
In this interview on Buzz Daily News Network, I talk about why so many people struggle to trust God… and how discovering the real heart of the Father can change everything.
If you’ve ever wondered whether God truly cares about you, this conversation is for you.
