Take the Next Step
Experiencing the power of Pentecost can be life-changing. It certainly was for the Apostles in the upper room – our faith is the evidence of their zeal for the Lord. Take a moment and think about it. If the apostles had never stepped out of the upper room. Christianity would have died in the upper room, and the world would never have known the saving power of Jesus. But thankfully, they were so overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit on Pentecost that they couldn’t contain the love they encountered and began sharing it, so two thousand years later, we can experience it.
The apostles didn’t have written instructions on where to go or what to do, no bible studies or youth gatherings – but they took the next steps and walked out of the upper room. I encourage you to read how the Holy Spirit inspired and directed their steps in Acts of the Apostles. Still, the one common denominator is that they never stopped taking the next step, even if they were imprisoned or shipwrecked – they never stopped witnessing to the Love of God.
We are responsible for handing on the faith to the next generation of believers, and while that may seem like an overwhelming God-sized task, we must take the next step. If you’ve encountered the Holy Spirit in a powerful way this Pentecost, don’t worry about where to go or what to do – the Mighty Wind will guide you, but you must be willing to be uprooted, take the next step, and keep moving.
If you are looking for a first step, I suggest that you ask the question: “God, what is your will for my life?” Who knows your purpose in life better than the one who created you? Nobody, not even you. To help you answer that question, our founder, Terry Modica, has authored a workbook entitled Knowing God’s Will and Doing it Well. I encourage you to check out this resource, and if it helps you, encourage your parish to sponsor an in-person or online workshop where Good News Ministries will lead you deeper in your understanding of God’s will and how to respond to the Holy Spirit.
May God continue to bless you and your families. Come, Holy Spirit.
