If You Are Proclaiming the Word Of God…Don’t be Surprised

All who speak of the Lord devoutly, all who is a prophet of the Lord, attract upon themselves the looks of those that surround them. All are attracted by such words. All, in some measure, stop what they are doing to ask, “What is this?” Afterwards, every person is in charge of giving their response. Some people move toward those words to continue listening; their hearts are ready, they want more, their spirits are joyous, and they allow themselves to be transformed by these words. Victory for the Lord and man! They are together in society. The Creator and the created, together, are invincible.

Others will feel annoyed; something will stir within them. They will frown and give way to mistrust. “Be careful!” their spirits will yell. “These are threats!” And rejection will be born immediately, along with the desire to quiet the voice that announces and denounces.

There are an infinite number of nuances between one reaction and another. Availability might be present, but also fear. Doubt, guilt, prejudices, exhaustion, fear, closeness and later distance, or vice versa. There are as many reactions as there are humans on Earth.

But in truth, the voice that proclaims the word of the Lord will always provoke something. If it does not, then it is not the word of God. Instead, it might only be the words of humans who have good intentions.

If you are proclaiming the word of the Lord, you should prepare yourself for a diverse range of reactions from all who listen: availability, joy, acceptance, uncertainty, anger, annoyance, rejection, fury, persecution and, if it were possible, death.

If you are proclaiming the word of the Lord, many lives will be transformed. Joy will be a clear sign of authenticity, as well as persecution.

If you are proclaiming the word of the Lord, pray. Ask the Lord to strengthen your spirit so that the applauses will not make your soul boast and so that the persecutions will not sow hate in your heart.

May the Master strengthen us in this beautiful Advent season and renew our call to be His Prophet!
