January 11 – Saint Francisca Salesia
Sweet Jesus, Saint Francisca Salesia wouldn’t let any obstacles get in the way of her dreams. Born as Leonia Aviat in Sezanne, France, in 1844, she grew up at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. She wanted to become a Visitation Nun, but her family opposed this vocation. Nonetheless, she persisted in following her calling. Encouraged by her spiritual director (Father Louis Alexander Alphonse Brisson), she co-founded with him a new religious congregation, the Sister Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales, for the mission of providing Christian education to the young women who worked in the mills. However, religious persecution and anti-Catholic legislation drove her out of France. Undeterred, she rebuilt her congregation in Perugia, Italy. Lord Jesus, may I have as much determination as Saint Francisca Salesia did in fulfilling the calling that You have given me. Saint Francisca Salesia, pray for me. Amen.
