Pray with the Saint of the Day and be blessed by inspirational quotes of Saints. These faith-builders will help you grow in joyful holiness.

Mary, Mother of God

The Mother of God, Blessed Virgin Mary,  starts off with her blessing the new year for we, her children. Heavenly Father, You blessed the Virgin Mary, Mother of God,  with the fullness of grace. She is my model of faith, hope, and love.  I give this new year to her intercession and ask for her holy prayers.  Place my needs into the protection of her motherly love. With her help, I want my faith to grow.  Give me an increase in the virtue of hope when troubles tempt me to despair.  Guide me in understanding Your infinite love.  And join my heart, dear Lord, to the Holy Mother’s Immaculate Heart, so that I may improve in loving everyone unconditionally, in imitation of my Savior Jesus.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

quoteFor is not Mary the Mother of Christ? Then she is our Mother also. And we must in truth hold that Christ, the Word made Flesh, is also the Savior of mankind. He had a physical body like that of any other man: and again as Savior of the human family.” (Pope Saint Pius X, 1835-1914 A.D., Feast day August 21)

quoteO sinner, be not discouraged, but have recourse to Mary in all your necessities. Call her to your assistance, for such is the divine Will that she should help in every kind of necessity.” (Saint Basil the Great, Doctor of the Church, 329-379 A.D., Feast Day January 2)

Saints Basil the Great and Gregory Nazianzen

Dear Jesus, Saints Basil the Great and Saint Gregory Nazianzen were dear friends, united in love for You.  Inspired by their example, I want to grow in my friendship with You.  Bless every alliance in which I’m involved, and if any are not of You, remove them from me.  I ask Saints Basil the Great and Saint Gregory Nazianzen as special saints to pray that I grow in patience, understanding, and service to the people God has placed in my life.  Help me, Lord Jesus, to give to You all the grudges, resentments, misunderstandings, and prejudices that have been interfering with my friendships. Replace these sinful tendencies with Your Perfect Love.  Saints Basil and Gregory, pray for me.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint Gregory of Nazianzen, Doctor of the Church (330-390 A.D.)

quoteDifferent men have different names, which they owe to their parents or to themselves, that is, to their own pursuits and achievements. But our great pursuit, the great name we wanted, was to be Christians, to be called Christians.”

Saint Basil the Great, Doctor of the Church (329-379 A.D.)

quoteBoasting of God is perfect and complete when we take no pride in our own righteousness but acknowledge that we are utterly lacking in true righteousness and have been made righteous only by faith in Christ.”

quoteAs for whatever share of glory you have received through your good works, that you can take with you to the Lord. All the people will stand round you in the presence of Him who judges you all: they will acclaim you as one who feeds the hungry and gives to the poor, they will name you as a merciful benefactor.”

Saint Genevieve

Lord God, Saint Genevieve (born c. 419–422 in Nanterre, Western Roman Empire; died c. 502–512 in Paris, France) was a small child when she decided to devote her life to You. She allowed nothing to interfere. Like her, I want to have an enthusiastic and single-minded heart for You. Pray, Saint Genevieve, that I become aware of the times I’m double-minded. Help me, O Lord, to serve You above all else. I dedicate my whole life to You. Teach me to love You with my whole heart, my whole mind, and my whole soul. Bless my efforts to grow spiritually every day, and remind me of this pledge when the distractions of the world pull my attention away from You. Saint Genevieve, pray for me. Amen.

Quote for Today

Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara (1805-1871 A.D.)
Feast day January 3

quoteSince you belong to God, you have to give yourself back to God.”

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton

O my Savior Jesus, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton was a mother and an educator, and devoted her life to children. Because of her great love for them, I ask her to join me in praying for all the children in my life—those in my family, those I teach, those I know through friendships, all those in my neighborhood, and every child who has ever crossed my path. Bless them, Jesus, guide them and protect them. Help them to feel Your tender love and keep them close to You always. Most especially, take Your healing comfort to the children who have been abused and abandoned. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for these little ones. Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton (1774-1821 A.D.)

quoteAnd in every disappointment, great or small, let your heart fly directly to your dear Savior, throwing yourself in those arms for refuge against every pain and sorrow. Jesus will never leave you or forsake you.”

quoteYes, we must learn the hard lesson of submission, and once this has been accomplished, everything that comes after will be rendered easy.”

quoteThe first end I propose in our daily work is to do the will of God; secondly, to do it in the manner He wills it and thirdly, to do it because it is His will.”

Saint John Neumann

Father God, Saint John Neumann worked tirelessly to spread the Gospel. I lift up to his intercession the country in which I live. With Saint John Neumann, I pray that You, O God, will reign as King and that the salvation of Your Son, Jesus Christ, will rescue those who are headed for the everlasting pit of destruction. I give to you, O Lord, the values of my society, the influences of the media, and the leadership of every national and local government agency, and every business, school, and religious organization. Show me how I can make a difference in these places for Christ. Saint John Neumann, pray for us. Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint John Neumann (1811-1860 A.D.)

quoteMerciful Father, You have given me all that I have in this world, even life itself. In all my daily needs, help me to remember the needs of others, too.”

quoteEnlighten me, strengthen me with Thy powerful grace, that I may snatch from Satan his unfortunate prey, and lead them back to Thee!”

quoteEveryone who breathes . . . has a mission, has a work. We are not sent into this world for nothing; we are not born at random. . . . God sees every one of us; He creates every soul . . . for a purpose. As Christ has His work, we too have ours; as He rejoiced to do His work, we must rejoice in ours also.”

Saint Melchior

Dear Jesus my Savior, Saint Melchior was one of the Magi who traveled far from home in order to find You in the newborn king. I place into Your protection all the journeys I will be making this year—the trips I have to take, the vacations I plan, the errands I run, and the most important journey of all, my spiritual walk. Saint Melchior, pray for my protection from accidents, getting lost, bad timing, unnecessary trips, and the pot-holes in the road to Heaven. I seek Your help, O God, in recognizing the guidance You send me, just as Saint Melchior followed the star of Bethlehem. Saint Melchior, pray for me. Amen.

Quote for Today

Saint Andre Bessette (1845-1917 A.D.)
Feast Day January 6

quoteGod never forgets you, He knows your needs. Show that you are generous in accepting whatever He may send you in the future. Nothing will happen to you without Him knowing it.”

Saint Raymond of Penyafort

Lord Jesus, Saint Raymond of Penyafort was a wonderful Confessor because he had great compassion for sinners. I ask for his intercession in my efforts to become more and more like You every day. I want to overcome my sinfulness, but it is so difficult. Give me the courage to identify what needs to be changed in me. Help me to grow in the determination to resist my sinful ways. Free me again from the slavery of sin. Reveal, through the Holy Spirit, the Father’s infinite love for me even when I commit sins, and remind me that, because of Your great sacrifice on the Cross, forgiveness is always available. Saint Raymond, pray for me. Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint Raymond of Penyafort (1175-1275 A.D.)

quoteMay the God of love and peace set your hearts at rest and speed you on your journey; may He meanwhile shelter you from disturbance by others in the hidden recesses of His love, until He brings you at last into that place of complete plenitude where you will repose for ever in the vision of peace, in the security of trust, and in the restful enjoyment of His riches.”

quoteLook then on Jesus, the author and preserver of faith: in complete sinlessness he suffered, and at the hands of those who were his own, and was numbered among the wicked. As you drink the cup of the Lord Jesus (how glorious it is!), give thanks to the Lord, the giver of all blessings.”

Saint Apollinaris the Apologist

Saint Apollinaris the Apologist (also called Apollinaris Claudius) was Bishop of Hierapolis in Phrygia, Greece, during the second century.  He was highly regarded for writing treatises that sorted the true faith from heresies. He explained how the false teachings came from pagan beliefs. I ask the Holy Spirit to increase in me the same passion for identifying false teachings and teaching the truth.

Quote for Today

Saint Apollinaris the Apologist (Second Century)

quoteWe therefore grossly deceive ourselves in not allotting more time to the study of divine truths. It is not enough barely to believe them, and let our thoughts now and then glance upon them: that knowledge which shows us heaven will not bring us to the possession of it, and will deserve punishments, not rewards, if it remain slight, weak, and superficial.”

Saint Adrian of Canterbury

O Holy Spirit, Saint Adrian of Canterbury (c. 630 – 710) was a highly successful missionary in pagan England, and a great teacher of Bible study. I ask for his same gift of explaining the Faith and understanding the teachings of the Church and the Sacred Scriptures. Anoint me with Your Truth, so that I may be protected from errors and deceptions. Help me to lovingly educate others in how to grow in holiness through what You have revealed in the Bible and the Sacred Traditions of Christianity. Keep me from becoming prideful in my knowledge, and remind me that my most important teaching tool is how I live my life. Saint Adrian, pray for me. Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint Philip of Moscow (1507-1569 A.D.)
Feast day January 9

quoteIf I do not bear witness to the truth, I render myself unworthy. If I bow to men’s will, what shall I find to answer Christ on the day of the Judgment?”

Blessed Tommaso Reggio (c. 1818-1901)
Feast day January 9

quoteI want to become a saint, cost what it may, living my life in accordance with the two cornerstones of Christianity: prayer and self-discipline.”

Saint Gregory of Nyssa

Saint Gregory of Nyssa was raised in a very holy family. His mother St. Emily and his father St. Basil the Elder had ten children. His grandmother was St. Macrina the Elder. His siblings included St. Macrina the Younger, St. Theosebia, St. Peter of Sebaste, and the famous Basil the Great. In 372, his brother Basil ordained him the bishop of Nyssa in Cappadocia, Greece. The two of them put much effort into defending the Faith against Arianism. Heretics deposed him twice from his see using false accusations. In 378 he was finally victorious and returned to his work. We pray to have the same determination and courage to proclaim the truths of the Catholic Faith. Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint Gregory of Nyssa (335-395 A.D.)

quoteA man who openly despises the accolades of this world and rejects all earthly glory must also practice self-denial. Such self-denial means that you never seek your own will but God’s, using God’s will as a sure guide.”

quoteAs no darkness can be seen by anyone surrounded by light, so no trivialities can capture the attention of anyone who has his eyes on Christ.”

quoteThe Lord does not say that it is blessed to know something about God, but rather to possess God in oneself: ‘Blessed are the clean of heart, for they shall see God’ (Matthew 5:8).”

Saint Francisca Salesia wouldn’t let any obstacles get in the way of her dreams. Born as Leonia Aviat in Sezanne, France, in 1844, she grew up at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. She wanted to become a Visitation Nun, but her family opposed this vocation. Nonetheless, she persisted in following her calling. Encouraged by her spiritual director (Father Louis Alexander Alphonse Brisson), she co-founded with him a new religious congregation, the Sister Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales, for the mission of providing Christian education to the young women who worked in the mills. However, religious persecution and anti-Catholic legislation drove her out of France. Undeterred, she rebuilt her congregation in Perugia, Italy. Lord Jesus, may I have as much determination as Saint Francisca Salesia did in fulfilling the calling that You have given me.

Quotes for Today

Saint Francisca Salesia (1844-1914)

quoteLet us establish a permanent Spring season in our heart through ‘yes’ often repeated to all of God’s permissions and wills.”

quoteMay my love unceasingly offer something to my Divine Jesus.”

Saint Vitalis of Gaza, Hermit (d. 625 A.D.)

quoteJudge nothing before the time until the Lord comes, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the heart.”

Saint Benedict Biscop

God my Creator, after Saint Benedict made a pilgrimage to Rome, he added Roman elements of worship to English liturgies and thus became the patron saint of musicians and painters. I seek his intercession for the musicians at church, the people in charge of liturgical environment, and the creative thinkers who offer ideas for change; may everything they do glorify You, O God. I also ask him to pray for the songwriters, singers and artists who evangelize through their talents, and for those who still need conversion. May we all use our talents for the building up of Your Kingdom. Saint Benedict, pray for us. Amen.

Quotes for Today

Blessed Alfonso Maria Mazurek (1891-1944, martyr)
Feast day January 12

quoteAll our sanctity and perfection consists in conforming ourselves to the will of God, which is the sole and supreme rule of perfection and of holiness.”

Saint Aelred of Rievaulx (1110-1167, abbot)
Feast day January 12

quoteCharity may be a very short word, but with its tremendous meaning of pure love, it sums up man’s entire relation to God and to his neighbor.”

Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys (1620-1700)
Feast day January 12

quoteOur Lady’s love is like a stream that has its source in the Eternal Fountains, quenches the thirst of all, can never be drained, and ever flows back to its Source.”

Saint Hilary of Poitiers

Jesus my Lord, Saint Hilary of Poitiers was an avid defender of Your divinity, because many were claiming that You were only human. Increase in me the desire to be a witness of Your Divine Presence in my life. Teach me how to reveal to others that You truly are God, truly are the Savior of the world. In today’s world of New Age heresies, help me defend the truth. I ask the Holy Spirit to give me words that will lead others to conversion with a better understanding of Who Jesus is. Empower me to profess Christ’s divinity with my human life, so that when others look at me they will see Him. Saint Hilary, pray for me. Amen.

Quote for Today

Saint Hilary of Poitiers (315-368, Doctor of the Church)

quoteBut yours it is, Lord, to grant our petitions, to be present when we seek You and to open when we knock. Impart to us, then, the meaning of the words of Scripture and the light to understand it, with reverence for the doctrine and confidence in its truth.”
