Beloved Father, just before Saint Brigid of Ireland was born, her Christian mother was sold to a Druid landowner. Even though she grew up oppressed as a slave, she found great joy in loving You. As the patron saint of babies, she has a special concern for the gift of new life, so I ask her to pray for the babies in my family, both born and unborn. May they grow up with Jesus and obtain the joy of knowing Him. I place into Your loving hands, Father, all the babies who died prematurely, through abortion, miscarriage or medical conditions. Ask them, Lord, to intercede for me and my family. Saint Brigid of Ireland, pray for us. Amen.
Quote for Today
Saint Brigid of Ireland (453-523)
I would like an abundance of peace. I would like full vessels of charity. I would like rich treasures of mercy. I would like cheerfulness to preside over all. I would like Jesus to be present.”

Heavenly Father, on this Feast day of The Holy Family, the Feast of Candlemas (the Presentation of Christ), I recall the gift Mary and Joseph gave to the world by offering baby Jesus to You in the temple. I offer up to You all the children in my family. I place them into Your perfect will and I turn their futures over to You. Help me to let go of my ideas of what they should do with their lives, and show me how to guide them into the purposes for which You created them. Help me to learn from the example of the Blessed Mother, whose heart was pierced by the sword of her Son’s pain, how to always trust in Your plans. Holy Family, pray for us. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Blessed Louis A. Brisson (1817-1908)
Feast day February 2
Hold the child in high esteem and instead of frustrating, lend a hand to the work grace accomplishes in these young souls.”
Saint Theophane Venard (1817-1908)
Feast day February 2
I do not rely on my own strength, but on the strength of Him who defeated the power of Hell and of the world through the Cross.”
Saint Theophane Venard (1817-1908)
Feast day February 2
We are all flowers planted on this earth, which God plucks in His own good time: some a little sooner, some a little later. One is a blushing rose, another a virginal lily, a third a humble violet. Let us all try to please our sovereign Lord and Master by the gift and the fragrance He has given us.”

Lord Jesus Christ, Saint Blaise was a 2nd century physician who served You, healing both humans and animals. While imprisoned for his faith, he healed his fellow prisoners and saved a child who was choking on a fish bone. Thus he became the patron saint of throat ailments, colds and viruses. I ask him to intercede for myself, my family, my friends, and everyone who has asked for my prayers. Lord Jesus, help us in every ailment. Heal us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. May our sufferings be used to glorify God. And teach us how to become Your instrument of healing for others. Saint Blaise, pray for us. Amen.

O My Jesus, Saint Jane of Valois (1464-1505) was born with deformities and she suffered from illnesses throughout her life. Yet she refused to give into discouragement, and at a very young age she became devoted to the Blessed Mother. Later, she helped found a religious order whose chief rule was to imitate the virtues of Mary as revealed in the Bible. I ask Saint Jane to help me by her prayers that I may overcome my unwillingness to discover goodness within my pain and trials. Lord Jesus, transform my sufferings into greater holiness. Sanctify me, and help me become a better student of Your Mother’s virtues. Saint Jane of Valois, pray for me. Amen.
Quote for Today
Saint Maria de Mattias (1805-1866)

Loving God, while Saint Agatha was being tortured for her faith, You interrupted her agonies with an earthquake. She thanked You for bringing an end to her pain and passed immediately into Heaven as a blessed martyr. I lift up to You my home and family, workplace and co-workers, church and community. Through the intercession of Saint Agatha, protect us from earthquakes, fire, storms, and other natural disasters. Teach us not to be so attached to our earthly possessions that we want Your protection for selfish reasons; rather, help us become more generous with the goods You have given us. Saint Agatha, pray for us. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Saint Agatha of Sicily (d. 250)
Jesus Christ, Lord of all things! You see my heart, you know my desires. Possess all that I am.”
Lord, my creator, you have protected me since I was in the cradle. You have taken me from the love of the world and given me patience to suffer.”

Blessed Redeemer, Saints Paul Miki and 25 companions were crucified together in 1597 because of their faith in You. They were martyred in Japan on a hill now known as the Holy Mountain, overlooking Nagasaki. Among them were priests, brothers, and laymen, Franciscans, Jesuits, and members of the Secular Franciscan Order; there were catechists, doctors, simple artisans, and servants, old men and innocent children. Lord Jesus, I offer to You the crosses in my life. Use them for the salvation of the people around me who don’t yet know You, especially those who are in my family. Help me to endure this sacrifice with the same joy Saint Paul and his fellow martyrs had. Turn the crosses I must endure into a ministry of prayers more powerful than words and rituals, and take away the other crosses—the ones You are not asking me to carry. Help me to experience Your love in every holy cross I must bear. Saint Paul Miki and companions, pray for me. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Blessed Alfonso Maria Fusco (1839-1910)
Feast day February 6
The Work is God’s; I am His worker; God began it. For God I shall continue it. God wanted this Work done. He obliged me to do it. God will provide.”
Blessed Mary Teresa Bonzel (1830-1905)
Feast day February 6
Constant prayer and conversation with God is what makes us true religious, not our work among children and the sick. God will not let anyone be confounded who trusts in Him and not in man.”

O Generous God, Blessed Giles Mary-of-Saint-Joseph (1729-1812) served as a lowly porter in a monastery. He accepted his work with humility out of devotion to You. When assigned the responsibility of distributing food and alms to the poor, he gave generously yet never ran out, thanks to the aid of Saint Joseph. Blessed Giles, pray with Saint Joseph for my own desire to be a giver. I submit to God my finances; may I tithe what I receive and give offerings even greater than this, yet never run out. I also submit my time; may I serve others and still have enough time for my own needs and that of my family. Blessed Giles Mary-of-Saint-Joseph, pray for me. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Blessed Pope Pius IX (1792-1878)

Holy water has a special power to defend us against all attacks of the devil. When we make the sign of the cross with holy water, we gain each time an indulgence of one hundred days.”
Mary, with the ever merciful affection so characteristic of her maternal heart, wishes, through her efficacious intercession with God, to deliver her children from the sad and grief-laden troubles.”

Dear Holy Spirit, Saint Jerome Emiliani founded three orphanages, a shelter for repentant prostitutes, and a hospital. I lift up to you the orphans, foster children, and abandoned people in my town and nation. I especially ask Saint Jerome to intercede for the children and teenagers who do not have both parents embracing them with healthy love. Spirit of God, lead all these wounded little ones to people who care, people who will raise their self-esteem, people who will help them heal from the pain of being rejected and forgotten. And show me what I can do to help them discover Your love. Saint Jerome Emiliani, pray for me. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Saint Jerome Emiliani (1481-1537)
God wishes to test you like gold in the furnace. The dross is consumed by the fire, but the pure gold remains and its value increases. It is in this manner that God acts with his good servant, who puts his hope in him and remains unshaken in times of distress.”
If then you remain constant in faith in the face of trial, the Lord will give you peace and rest for a time in this world, and forever in the next.”

Almighty King, Saint Sabinus served You as an ambassador for the pope in the 3rd century. You have called me to be an ambassador for Your Kingdom. Help me to represent You well. Teach me how to speak boldly and to reveal Your Kingdom of love by loving everyone unconditionally. I ask Saint Sabinus to pray for the people to whom You will send me. May they be opened by the Holy Spirit to receive the message of salvation and be converted. Send angels before me to prepare the way in their hearts. Lord Jesus, help them to get in touch with their hunger for You, and feed them through me. Saint Sabinus, pray for us. Amen.

O Beloved Jesus, Saint Scholastica enjoyed spending hour upon hour talking with family and friends about the nature of God and the joys of spiritual growth. She found so much energy in this activity that she would continue all night long! I submit to You, O Lord, all of my conversations. May I speak only words that glorify You. Bring to me companions who have the same enthusiasm for faith-sharing. Protect us from shallow chatter and from sinful gossip. Help us to take time out of our busy lives to come together for the sake of mutual support and spiritual growth. Saint Scholastica, pray for us. Amen.

Divine Jesus, you sent Our Lady of Lourdes, the Blessed Mother Mary, to Saint Bernadette to show the world that God is real. Just like Mary asked the girl to dig for a spring of healing water to appear, show me how to be cleansed of my sinful tendencies. Give to me Your dear Mother when I need her tender love and holy inspiration. As I go through difficulties, cover me with her prayers. When I have important decisions to make, ask her to intercede for me until I understand and follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance. When it’s time for me to die, send her to carry me peacefully into the arms of our heavenly Father. Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for me. Amen.
Quote for Today

Beloved Lord, Saint Julian (4th century) spent his life caring for the poor as a sacrifice for inadvertently killing his parents. He is the patron saint of circus workers, innkeepers, travelers, and murderers. I ask him to pray for all those in the entertainment industry so that they grow in a desire to use their talents to renew life rather than destroy it. I ask him to intercede for the safety of travelers and for the needs of those who provide services to tourists. And I ask him to pray for the families who need healing from the tragedies of murder and abuse. Holy Spirit, teach us to protect and respect all life. Saint Julian, pray for us. Amen.

Saint Ethelwald of Lindisfarne (d.699)

Lord Jesus, Saint Martinian the Hermit (350-398) was determined in remembering the consequences of sin. Help me to overcome the temptations of the world. I want to be as determined as Saint Martinian the hermit was. When he was being strongly tempted by a beautiful woman seducing him, he lit a fire and put his feet in it long enough to feel dread for the fires of Hell. I offer up to You the areas of my life in which I am especially vulnerable to succumbing to Satan’s wiles. Strengthen my resolve, O Lord. Help me to keep You always in front of me, protecting me and making it clear the difference between sinful ways and Your ways. Saint Martinian, pray for me. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Blessed Jordan of Saxony (1190-c.1237)
Feast Day February 13
We say many things, perform many deeds, and suffer very many things through which, if charity were abundant in our hearts, directing and ordering all things to God, our true end, we would indeed become much more fruitful in merits and far richer in virtue.”
Let us accept with joy whatever share of sadness falls to our lot; for in the same measure that tribulations have been meted out to us will joy be measured to us, poured into us by the Son of God, Jesus Christ.”
Saint Catherine Dei Ricci (1522-1590)

Blessed Lord, Saints Cyril and Methodius were brothers who worked successfully to convert pagans. Saint Cyril’s special prayer was: “I return to You, Your people, Your gift to me. Direct them with Your powerful right hand, and protect them under the shadow of Your wings.” I ask both of these saints to pray for the people God has placed in my life. Help me, O Lord, to be an inspiration for their spiritual growth. Protect me from focusing on the hurts they cause, so that I may see these people as gifts. Teach me to be grateful for the opportunities of serving them. Saints Cyril and Methodius, pray for me. Amen.

Dear Father, Saint Sigfrid of Sweden (d.1045) suffered the beheading of his nephews by pagans, but when his king decided to execute the murderers, he stood up against capital punishment, and their lives were spared. I lift up to You all the people on Death Row; may they experience Your forgiveness and the pardon of the people they offended. I ask Saint Sigfrid to pray for their executions to be stopped. I also put into Your hands the legislators who decide whether or not to end capital punishment. Inspire those who are working to influence their votes; may they be as effective as Saint Sigfrid was with his king. Saint Sigfrid, pray for us. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Saint Claude de la Colombiere (1641-1682)
Feast day February 15
If your confidence were as great as it ought to be, you would not worry about what may happen to you, you would place it all in God’s hands, hoping that when He wants something of you, He will let you know what it is.”
The greater [my sins] are, the worse they seem to me, the more willingly will I give them to him because the offering will be all the more worthy of his mercy.”

Blessed Jesus, in the New Testament Letter to Philemon, it says that his slave Onesimus had run away as a thief, met Saint Paul, and received forgiveness. I give to You my own desire to run. When my reputation has been slandered by people who misunderstand me, who are prejudiced against me, and whom I’ve hurt through my sinfulness, help me to stop running away from them and show me how to run to You instead to find justice. Just as Paul became an advocate for Onesimus, bring to me someone who will help others see me as I really am and open their hearts toward me. Saint Onesimus, pray for me. Amen.
Quote for Today
Servant of God Isaac Hecker (1819-1888)
Self-love, self-activity, self-hood, is something not easily destroyed. It is like a cancer which has its roots extending to the most delicate fibers of our mental and moral nature. Divine grace can draw them all out. But how slowly! And how exquisitely painful is the process! The more subtle the self-love, the more painful the cure.”

Holy God, the Seven Founders of the Order of Servites of Mary were businessmen who followed Christ in fellowship — praying together, learning together, becoming more like Jesus together. They formed a community apart from the world. I lift up to You all my Christian friendships. Build unity within the Christian communities to which I belong. Teach us to become stronger in our common relationship with Christ. Help us to separate ourselves from the world even while we live within it, following not the world’s ways but supporting each other as we become more like Jesus in our daily lives. Founders of the Order of Servites, pray for us. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Saint Paul (Ephesians 2:19)
Brothers and sisters: You are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God….”
Servant of God Isaac Hecker (1819-1888)
The spirit of the age has a tendency to run into extreme individuality, into eccentricity, license, revolution. But the typical life shows how individuality is consistent with community life…. But when it comes into conflict with the common right, the individual must yield to the community: the common life outranks the individual life in case of conflict. But the individual life should be regarded as sacred and never to be effaced.”

Gracious God, the incorruptible body of Saint Bernadette of Lourdes, though she died in 1879, remains undeteriorated, a testament to her holiness and Your desire to protect our bodies from destruction. Because of her compassion, which she learned from life-long sicknesses and mistreatments, I ask her to intercede for all the people I know who have illnesses and diseases, all those who have asked me to pray for them as they hope for healing, and my own need to be healthy. Lord God, help us to grow in holiness so that our souls are purified and our bodies may testify to Your loving goodness. Saint Bernadette, pray for us. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Saint Bernadette of Lourdes (1844-1879)
Nothing is anything more to me; everything is nothing to me, but Jesus: neither things nor persons, neither ideas nor emotions, neither honor nor sufferings. Jesus is for me honor, delight, heart and soul.”
I must die to myself continually and accept trials without complaining. I work, I suffer, and I love with no other witness than His heart. Anyone who is not prepared to suffer all for the Beloved and to do His will in all things is not worthy of the sweet name of Friend, for here below, Love without suffering does not exist. “

Mighty Lord, Saint Barbatus of Benevento (c.610-682) was a priest with great zeal who fought against the superstitious beliefs of pagans. Though his own parishioners would not listen to him, the pagans did, renounced their sinful ways, and converted to the true Faith. Bless my own understanding of the supernatural. Teach me what is of You, and bring to light the superstitions I believe. Help me to let go of all deceptions, mistaken beliefs, and occult powers, and bring the Holy Spirit to me in the fullness of His power. Then guide me in setting others free from the ideas that do them harm. Saint Barbatus of Benevento, pray for me. Amen.
Quote for Today

Heavenly Father, when she was young, Saint Amata of Assisi (d.1250) rejected You and rebelled against morality. Eventually her aunt, Saint Clare of Assisi, converted her and brought the girl into her religious order. I lift up to you all the teenagers I know; guide them to true wisdom, which comes from the Holy Spirit, and help them to desire good values as part of their relationship with a good and loving God. I also give to You everyone else who is rebelling against Truth, including the media that spreads immorality. May the victory of Jesus set them all free from the demons that try to block the way to Heaven. Saint Amata of Assisi, pray for us. Amen.
Quote for Today
Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen (1895-1979)
The person who thinks only of himself says only prayers of petition; the one who thinks of his neighbor says prayers of intercession; whoever thinks only of loving and serving God says prayers of abandonment to God’s will, and this is the prayer of the saints.”

O Holy Spirit, Saint Peter Damian was a professor who became a monk and actively fought corruption. I ask Saint Peter to intercede for all the teachers of our children and the college professors of our young adults. Make them sensitive to the falsehoods that corrupt the soul and give them a desire to teach only what is good. Lead them into a closer friendship with You and a stronger understanding of Truth. Give them what they need to build our youth into happy, healthy, holy adults who will make the world a better place while serving the Kingdom of God in partnership with You. Saint Peter Damian, pray for us. Amen.
Quote for Today
Saint Peter Damian (1007-1072)
Benedictine Monk, Doctor of the Church
How do you (Mary, Mother of Mercy) appease the anger of our Judge when He is on the point of punishing us for our offenses! All the treasures of the mercy of God are in your hands. Ah, may it never happen that you should cease from doing us good: you seek but the occasion of saving all sinners, and of bestowing mercy upon them.”

Lord Jesus Christ, You gave Saint Peter the Apostle his name to signify that he was the rock upon which You would build Your Church. I ask him to pray for our pope, bishops, priests, deacons, religious brothers and sisters, ministers, and laity who are in positions of Church leadership. Help them to grow in holiness, shepherding their flocks in humility and generosity as You did. Teach us to be rocks of faith like Saint Peter. Give us a strong love and a compassionate heart. Protect us from the temptations of legalism, power and status. Anoint us to be servants of Your love, in everything we do. Saint Peter the Apostle, pray for us. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Saint Peter the Apostle
Once you were ‘no people’ but now you are God’s people; you ‘had not received mercy’ but now you have received mercy.”
Saint Margaret of Cortona (1247-1297)
Feast day February 22
In times of desolation, God conceals Himself from us so that we can discover for ourselves what we are without Him.”

Heavenly Father, Saint Polycarp was part of the first generation of Christians who met Jesus not by direct experience but by Sacred Tradition. He told his community to “follow the example of the Lord, ‘firm and unchangeable in faith, loving each other, united in truth,’ helping each other with the mildness of the Lord, despising no man.” I give to You my personal encounters with Jesus. Help me to see Him as He really is, to feel His love, and to hear Him clearly. Teach me to follow His example by standing strong in the Faith and loving others unconditionally. Saint Polycarp, pray for me. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Saint Polycarp (69-155), Bishop
Now may the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the eternal high priest himself, the Son of God Jesus Christ, build you up in faith and truth and in all gentleness and in all freedom from anger and forbearance and steadfastness and patient endurance and purity, and may he give to you a share and a place among his saints, and to us with you, and to all those under heaven who will yet believe in our Lord and God Jesus Christ and in his Father who raised him from the dead.”
For it is good to be cut off from the sinful desires in the world, because every sinful desire wages war against the spirit, and neither fornicators nor men who have sex with men (whether as the passive or as the active partner) will inherit the kingdom of God, nor will those who do perverse things.”
For everyone who does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is antichrist; and whoever does not acknowledge the testimony of the cross is of the devil; and whoever twists the sayings of the Lord to suit his own sinful desires and claims that there is neither resurrection nor judgment — well, that person is the firstborn of Satan.”

My Dear Savior, Saint Luke Belludi (c.1205-1286) traveled with Saint Anthony of Padua and assisted him in ministry. He also took care of his friend when the latter was dying. I ask him to intercede for all those of my family and friends and community who are in need of or will someday need special care. Bless the children, those in nursing homes, the homebound, and the sick in hospitals. Instill in me a willing and generous heart to give them my time when it’s needed. Teach me to serve them with the same devotion as Saint Luke had for Saint Anthony. Help me to be the visible expression of Your love. Saint Luke Belludi, pray for me. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Blessed Josefa Naval Girbes (1820-1893)
Feast Day February 24
Prayer, prayer; pray for a while each day, and life will be easier and bearable. Learn to speak with God without words and, in this way, practice the prayer of meditation.”
Blessed Thomas Mary Fusco (1820-1893)
Feast Day February 24
May work and suffering for God always be your glory, and in your work and suffering may God be your consolation on this earth, and your recompense in heaven.”

Blessed Redeemer, Saint Walburga (c.710-c.779) evangelized and healed pagans very successfully. However, after her death, pagans began to connect her name with witchcraft, and May 1st became a satanic feast still honored today as Walpurgisnacht. I ask this saint to pray for the conversion of witches, satanists, and other pagans. Set them free from Satan’s grip. Send Christians into their lives and fill these evangelists with the Holy Spirit to empower them to heal these poor souls. Interrupt all Walpurgisnacht rituals and other satanic gatherings with Your Holy Presence. Saint Walburga, pray for us. Amen
Quote for Today
Blessed Dominic Lentini (1794-1828)
Feast day February 25
What is it that is lacking in people nowadays and even in believers themselves? It’s the Cross, because in the Mystery of the Cross there is everything: there is faith, there is obedience, there is human pain, there is the way of glory.”

Lord Jesus, Saint Isabel of France (c.1295-1358) was the daughter of a king, but this did not make her haughty. Since early childhood, she had an extraordinary desire for piety, modesty, and other virtues. She persisted in remaining solely dedicated to You, despite the opinions and advice of others. I ask her to pray for my life in this world. Make it such a holy life, that others notice I’m different. Help me to resist the temptation of seeking the approval of people, so that I may care only to have Your approval. Shut my ears to viewpoints that would hold me back from growing as fast as I can spiritually. Saint Isabel of France, pray for me. Amen.
Quote for Today
Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen (1895-1979)

Holy God, *Saint Anne Line (c. 1563-1601) converted to Catholicism at a time when people were arrested for this. She fearlessly helped others survive the persecutions, and her home became a rallying point for Catholics. Fully aware of the possible cost to her life, she hid a priest and held Mass in her home, but was arrested and hanged for it. I ask her to pray for the converts in my church, the converted Catholics of the world, and those being called by God to become Catholic. Help them grow in true faith. Help also all those who have fallen away from the Catholic Church; may they return with zeal. Saint Anne Line, pray for us. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Blessed Maria Caridad Brader (1860-1943)
Feast day February 27
See God’s will in everything, and do His will with joy, out of love of Him.”
Saint Gabriel Possenti (1838-1862)
Feast day February 27
I will attempt day by day to break my will into pieces. I want to do God’s Holy Will, not my own!”
Love Mary! She does not look to see what kind of person you have been. She simply comes to a heart that wants to love her. She comes quickly and opens her merciful heart to you, embraces you and consoles and serves you.”
* Note: Saint Anne Line is one of Terry Modica’s personal patron saints because February 27th is Terry’s birthday, and she too is a convert to Catholicism. In fact, Terry suspects that Saint Anne Line guided her to the Catholic Church long before Terry ever heard of her.

Jesus Lamb of God, You healed two lepers through Saint Romanus of Condat (c.390-c.460) because he embraced them. I ask him to intercede for those in my family and community who are outcasts because of their illnesses, including those with HIV and AIDS. Send humble people into their lives like Saint Romanus who will give them understanding and compassion and Your healing graces. Help the suffering people feel Your embrace through those who minister to them and care for them. Teach them to discover — and grow in the awareness of — the infinite love and saving power that is in You. Saint Romanus of Condat, pray for us. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Saint Damien of Molokai (1840-1889)
I make myself a leper with the lepers to gain all to Jesus Christ.”
The Eucharist is the bread that gives strength…. It is at once the most eloquent proof of His love and the most powerful means of fostering His love in us. He gives Himself every day so that our hearts as burning coals may set afire the hearts of the faithful.”
Without the Blessed Sacrament a position like mine would be intolerable.”

Lord, you entrusted Saint Oswald (c.604-c.641) to be a wise and good king of Anglo-Saxton Northumbria. He realized that much help was needed to restore Christianity to his country and that he could not do it alone. You inspired and guided him to instigate and support missionary efforts by the Irish monk Aidan of Lindisfarne. Lord Jesus, there are so many times when I try to “go it alone” or somehow think that I can solve problems as if I’m the savior of the world. Forgive me for my arrogance, and inspire me to recognize and enlist the aid of the brothers and sisters you’ve placed in my life. Empower us to work together in bringing Your Gospel and Your compassion to the world. Help me and others to always place our trust in the one true Savior — that is You, Lord Jesus Christ. Saint Oswald, pray for us. Amen.
