December 16 – Saint Adelaide
Beloved God, Saint Adelaide (931-999) was arrested for being a Christian and kept in near-solitary confinement. A priest rescued her by digging an underground tunnel to her cell. He hid her in the woods and brought her food and clothing. Though she had opportunity, she took no revenge upon her enemies. I ask her to intercede for those who need the protection of a loving, Christian home: abused children, rejected teenage mothers, aging parents, and other lonely souls. O Lord, remind me that I turn You away whenever I turn one of them away. Help me to open my home and my heart to the needs of others. Saint Adelaide, pray for us. Amen.
