August 20 – Saint Bernard of Clairvaux
Heavenly Father, Saint Bernard of Clairvaux used to ask himself every morning, “Why have I come here?” and he answered, “To lead a holy life.” I ask him to pray for me to turn my life more fully over to You. I have heard You calling me, and I choose to follow where You lead. Use the talents, the resources, the time, the experiences, the hurts, the spiritual growth, and everything You have given me, so that no day is wasted. I want to help others find their way into Your kingdom. I want to serve others so that they can experience Your love. Heal me of every obstacle that holds me back from serving You. Saint Bernard, pray for me. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Saint Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153)
Anyone who wishes to pray must choose not only the right place but also the right time. A time of leisure is best and most convenient. The deep silence when others are asleep is particularly suitable, for prayer will then be freer and purer.”
For even if I am aware of many sins, what does it matter? Where sin abounded grace has overflowed. And if the Lord’s mercies are from all ages forever, I too will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever.”
Jesus is honey on the lips, melody in the ear, joy in the heart. Yet not alone is that name light and food. It is also a remedy. Is anyone amongst you sad? Let the name of Jesus enter his heart let it leap thence to his mouth.”
