July 13 – Saint Henry II
Most Holy Spirit, Saint Henry II (973-1024) was one of the best rulers of the Christian Roman Empire. He reformed the Church, assisted the growth of new monasteries, and oversaw the building of many beautiful churches. Because he believed that the Creed was essential to understanding our faith, he convinced the Pope to institute its use every Sunday and major feast day. I ask him to pray for my understanding of the Creed, that it may not be merely words I recite at Mass, but rather a faith I live out in everyday life. Teach me what each line of the Creed means in my relationship with You and the Church. Saint Henry II, pray for me. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Saint Teresa of Jesus of the Andes (1900-1920)
Feast Day July 13
Is there anything good, beautiful or true that we can think of that would not be in Jesus? Wisdom, from which nothing would be secret. Power, for which nothing would be impossible. Justice, which made him take on flesh in order to make satisfaction for sin.”
When one gets to know God; when in the silence of prayer He overshadows our soul with a ray of His infinite beauty; when He overshadows our mind with His wisdom and power; when He inflames us with His goodness and mercy; then everything on earth is seen with sadness.”
Blessed Carlos M.C.R. Santiago (1918-1963)
Feast Day July 13
We need Catholics who are alert to the present moment.”
