September 30 – Saint Jerome

Saint Jerome

listenO Jesus, You are the Word of God made flesh, and Saint Jerome said that ignorance of the scriptures is ignorance of God.  As secretary to the Pope, he received the commission to translate the Bible from its original languages into Latin—the Vulgate.  I ask him to pray for my time spent reading scripture and my ability to translate it into everyday life.  Inspire me, O Lord, to discover more fully what the Bible teaches about Your love and anoint my mind to understand what it says about holy living.  Use Your Word to show me how to fulfill the calling You have placed upon my life.  Saint Jerome, pray for me.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint Jerome (340-420)

quoteToday we must translate the words of Scripture into deeds, and instead of speaking saintly words, we must act them.”

quoteFor the Lord is gracious and merciful and prefers the conversion of a sinner rather than his death. Patient and generous in his mercy, he does not give in to human impatience but is willing to wait a long time for our repentance.”
