February 13 – Saint Martinian the Hermit

Saint-Martinian-the-Hermit.jpg

Lord Jesus, Saint Martinian the Hermit (350-398) was determined in remembering the consequences of sin. Help me to overcome the temptations of the world.  I want to be as determined as Saint Martinian the hermit was.  When he was being strongly tempted by a beautiful woman seducing him, he lit a fire and put his feet in it long enough to feel dread for the fires of Hell.  I offer up to You the areas of my life in which I am especially vulnerable to succumbing to Satan’s wiles.  Strengthen my resolve, O Lord.  Help me to keep You always in front of me, protecting me and making it clear the difference between sinful ways and Your ways.  Saint Martinian, pray for me.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

Blessed Jordan of Saxony (1190-c.1237)
Feast Day February 13

quoteWe say many things, perform many deeds, and suffer very many things through which, if charity were abundant in our hearts, directing and ordering all things to God, our true end, we would indeed become much more fruitful in merits and far richer in virtue.”

quoteLet us accept with joy whatever share of sadness falls to our lot; for in the same measure that tribulations have been meted out to us will joy be measured to us, poured into us by the Son of God, Jesus Christ.”

Saint Catherine Dei Ricci (1522-1590)
Feast Day February 13

quoteWe must force ourselves to detach our heart and will from all earthly loves, except for the love of God. We must love no fleeting things.”
