April 1 – Saint Melito of Sardis

Saint-Melito-of-Sardis

listenSacred Jesus, as a bishop and an ecclesiastical writer who understood the tremendous value of Your Passion on the Cross, Saint Melito of Sardis wrote: “He suffered for the sake of those who suffer, He was bound for those in bonds.”   Help me to fully grasp the meaning that Your sacrifice has for my life.  When I look upon a crucifix in church or in my home, remind me that by Your stripes I was healed.  Give me a mind that understands why You suffered for me.  Teach me to imitate You in giving passionate love to others, offering up all the pain of difficult relationships for their healing.  Saint Melito, pray for me.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint Melito of Sardis (d.c.180)

quoteWhen a man turns away ever so little from error, the mention of the truth is acceptable to him. For, just as when the cloud breaks ever so little there comes fair weather, even so, when a man turns toward God, the thick cloud of error which deprived him of true vision is quickly withdrawn from before him.”

quoteCome, then, all you nations of men, receive forgiveness for the sins that defile you. I am your forgiveness. I am the Passover that brings salvation. I am the lamb who was immolated for you. I am your ransom, your life, your resurrection, your light, I am your salvation and your king. I will bring you to the heights of heaven. With my own right hand I will raise you up, and I will show you the eternal Father.”
