August 27 – Saint Monica

Saint Monica

listenBlessed Lord, Saint Monica (c.332-387) was the mother of Saint Augustine, and for many years prayed and cried and did penances for her son.  As a result, he became a Doctor of the Church and one of her greatest theologians.  She is the patron saint of alcoholics and children who disappoint their parents, so I ask her to pray for all those I know who are taking a long time finding a true relationship with You, especially those trapped by addictions.  I also ask her to pray for the parents; Lord, give us signs of hope.  And I offer up my sufferings as penances on behalf of those who most need Your forgiveness.  Saint Monica, pray for us.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint Caesarius of Arles (470-543)
Feast day August 27

quoteCare of our souls is just like tilling the soil. Just as on cultivated land we pull up here and root out there so as to sow good seed, so must we do in our soul: pull up what is evil and plant what is good, root out what is harmful and transplant what is of value.”

quoteIf God wanted you to perish, He would take you away when you were sinning. Since you have sinned so much and still live, you are invited to repentance.”
