February 6 – Saint Paul Miki & Companions

Saints-Paul-Miki-and-Companions.jpg

Blessed Redeemer, Saints Paul Miki and 25 companions were crucified together in 1597 because of their faith in You. They were martyred in Japan on a hill now known as the Holy Mountain, overlooking Nagasaki. Among them were priests, brothers, and laymen, Franciscans, Jesuits, and members of the Secular Franciscan Order; there were catechists, doctors, simple artisans, and servants, old men and innocent children.  Lord Jesus, I offer to You the crosses in my life.  Use them for the salvation of the people around me who don’t yet know You, especially those who are in my family.  Help me to endure this sacrifice with the same joy Saint Paul and his fellow martyrs had.  Turn the crosses I must endure into a ministry of prayers more powerful than words and rituals, and take away the other crosses—the ones You are not asking me to carry.  Help me to experience Your love in every holy cross I must bear.  Saint Paul Miki and companions, pray for me.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

Blessed Alfonso Maria Fusco (1839-1910)
Feast day February 6

quoteThe Work is God’s; I am His worker; God began it. For God I shall continue it. God wanted this Work done. He obliged me to do it. God will provide.”

Blessed Mary Teresa Bonzel (1830-1905)
Feast day February 6

quoteConstant prayer and conversation with God is what makes us true religious, not our work among children and the sick. God will not let anyone be confounded who trusts in Him and not in man.”
