June 22 – Saint Paulinus of Nola
Beloved Lord, Saint Paulinus of Nola used his position as a Roman Consul to accumulate great wealth, but this did not satisfy him. In his yearning to find You, he gave away all his possessions to the poor. Then You called him to become a bishop, and he used that position to help many people. I ask him to pray for me in all the areas of my life where I am dissatisfied. Help me, O God, to look more honestly at how I use the positions I’m in and the motives behind my ambitions. Make me aware of the longings I have that only You can satisfy and, guide me in fulfilling my true vocation. Saint Paulinus of Nola, pray for me. Amen.
Quotes for Today
Saint Paulinus of Nola (354-431)
Listen, then, my son, and give me your ear. Break off all ties which bind and entangle you in this world. Change your secular service into something better, start being a soldier for the eternal King.”
Saint John Fisher (1469-1535)
Feast day June 22
I condemn no other man’s conscience: their conscience may save them, and mine must save me. We should remember, in all the controversies in which we engage, to treat our opponents as if they were acting in good faith, even if they seem to us to be acting out of spite or self interest.”
Saint Thomas More (1477-1534)
Feast day June 22
Grace is the light by which men see the way to walk out of sin; and grace is the staff without whose help no man is able to rise out of sin.”
