October 8 – Saint Pelagia the Penitent
Holy God, Saint Pelagia the Penitent (4th or 5th century) was an exotic dancer until she heard a sermon about a lewd performer. This sinner, said the homilist, did much to make herself look beautiful but did nothing for Your kingdom. Saint Pelagia confessed her sin, received baptism, and began a new life. She is the patron saint of actresses and other performers, so I ask her to pray for those who combine their talents with immorality. Put loving people into their paths who will lead them to You. Inspire them to entertain with dignity. Help them to become good role models for our youth. O Lord, bring them to Your salvation. Saint Pelagia, pray for us. Amen.
Quote for Today
Venerable Fulton Sheen (1895-1979)
“There is no word more ‘dangerous’ than liberalism, because to oppose it is the new ‘unforgivable sin.'”
