A revival of Catholic faith has begun!

By Terry Modica, soon-to-be Director Emeritus

Terry helps birds find freedomA couple of days ago, a little bird got trapped inside my screened porch. Desperately seeking escape (and nearly scared to death by the sight of my dog GG), it kept flying back and forth through my porch. The screen door was ajar, but it flew past its escape route.

I began talking to it, thinking of St. Francis and asking for his help. I told the bird, “In the name of Jesus Christ, fly the opposite way. The door is over there.”

To my surprise (oh me of little faith), it did! I told it to go to the door; it perched atop it. But then he turned away from the opening and caught its breath while preparing to fly back to where it just came from. I said, “In the name of Jesus, don’t go back there. Turn around. There is your freedom.”

And with a little hop, it did turn. Then it flew off into the great outdoors.

I said to myself, “Isn’t that like a lot of people? They’re desperate for the freedom that Christ provides but they fly right back into the evil that traps them.”

The Church in Decline… Until Now

For many years, the western Church has seen declining numbers. Let’s be frank. Many parishes are weak in evangelization, and more people have been leaving church than entering.

At last, something exciting is happening that makes our work as evangelizers easier! New surveys show that more Gen Z men are joining organized religion than previous generations — and faster than their female peers. Catholicism, with its rituals and definitive teachings on matters of faith and morals, is very appealing to many of them.

What’s behind this new trend? How do we respond to this opportunity?

Coming Soon: A New Evangelization Workshop

I’ve been studying this for the past several weeks. It’s become a series of podcast episodes in which I interview young men, and those who minister to young men, about it. Bill (GNM’s Media Director) and I have a couple more interviews lined up.

The next step will be to get these videos into the hands of those who want to evangelize. We’ll turn it into a workshop that can be streamed to groups. If you think your parish or your ministry might benefit from this workshop, let me know.

Meanwhile, listed below are the interviews that are already available. The episodes are 30+ minutes each.

Will You Support This Mission?

Your help can make a big difference! To support this important work and keep Good News Ministries going, we need a lot of champions donating to this cause. Our funds are at an all-time low because lately I haven’t had time to do a big fundraising push. Our need for lots of support has become urgent.

On a personal note, I’m retiring on August 15th — I turned 70 this year! But I’m not disappearing. I’ll continue serving the Lord through new podcasts and books. Bill Snyder is stepping in as the new Executive Director, and we’re also bringing on a new web developer. Will you help support this new chapter for Good News Ministries?

Watch this special series on bringing Gen Z men to Catholicism

Gen Z men are very interested in organized religion — more than previous generations. And Catholicism, with its rituals and definitive teachings on matters of faith and morals, is very appealing to many of them. Here are stories and insights of what we can do.
