Do you really know how good you are?
If you were to make two lists, one naming your faults and the other naming your good points, the fault category would be longer, wouldn’t it? This is the way most people view themselves after a lifetime of being defined by others.
However, this is not how God sees you. As today’s first reading says, “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have.” It’s a calling. Father God sees your goodness (he looks at you through the lens of what Jesus did for you on the Cross), calls forth your goodness, and makes the world a better place. Your mission is to share what’s good about you with others.
This calling is unique to you. It makes you extremely valuable to the Kingdom of God. Be it the ability to add laughter to a tense situation, be it artistic or musical talent, be it a generous heart or anything else that’s good about you, this is your ministry.
Like a dollar bill that’s just a worthless piece of paper unless it’s handed over to someone for a purchase, the goodness in you must be shared. The sharing is what makes us feel good.
How much time have you spent examining what is good in you — and believing it? Let God teach you about how much he values you!
