September 2 – Saint Agricola of Avignon

Saint Agricola of Avignon

listenGood Father, Saint Agricola of Avignon was a bishop who fought off an invasion of storks through a prayer of blessing, and he is now the patron saint against misfortune, for rain during drought, and for good weather.  I ask him to intercede for us during the hurricane season, and to pray for those places around the world that are now suffering from natural disasters.  O Lord, supply them with the aid they need, and help all the victims to rebuild their lives.  Give our land good weather for our crops, protect us from flooding rains, and when catastrophes hit, inspire us to get involved in helping each other.  Saint Agricola, pray for us.  Amen.

Quote for Today

Venerable Fulton Sheen (1895-1979)

quoteJoy is not the same as pleasure or happiness. A wicked and evil man may have pleasure, while any ordinary mortal is capable of being happy. Pleasure generally comes from things, and always through the senses; happiness comes from humans through fellowship. Joy comes from loving God and neighbor. Pleasure is quick and violent, like a flash of lightning. Joy is steady and abiding, like a fixed star. Pleasure depends on external circumstances, such as money, food, travel, etc. Joy is independent of them, for it comes from a good conscience and love of God.”
