May 10 – Saint John of Avila

Saint-John-of-Avila.jpg

listenGood Jesus, Saint John of Avila was the spiritual director of Saint Teresa of Avila, Saint John of God, and other saints.  He used to say, “I pray God may open your eyes and let you see what hidden treasures he bestows on us in the trials from which the world thinks only to flee.”  I ask Saint John to intercede for my growth in holiness, that I may gain the maturity to discover the good that springs out of the suffering I cannot avoid.  O Lord, give me more companions on my journey who assist me as spiritual directors, sharing the deepest truths with me and guiding me to greater purity and piety.  Saint John of Avila, pray for me.  Amen.
