February 15 – Saint Sigfrid of Sweden

Dear Father, Saint Sigfrid of Sweden (d.1045) suffered the beheading of his nephews by pagans, but when his king decided to execute the murderers, he stood up against capital punishment, and their lives were spared.  I lift up to You all the people on Death Row; may they experience Your forgiveness and the pardon of the people they offended.  I ask Saint Sigfrid to pray for their executions to be stopped.  I also put into Your hands the legislators who decide whether or not to end capital punishment.  Inspire those who are working to influence their votes; may they be as effective as Saint Sigfrid was with his king.  Saint Sigfrid, pray for us.  Amen.
