We All Need Divine Mercy
The Easter Season is finally here, and we can rejoice knowing that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has conquered death and risen from the grave, giving us new life in Him and the hope of heaven. It is certainly time to celebrate, but we must not forget how we arrived at the party: God’s Mercy.
It is through God’s unfathomable ocean of mercy that we are ransomed from sin and death. The church, in her wisdom, calls this Sunday “Divine Mercy Sunday.” In particular, it honors the revelations of Christ recorded in the diary of St. Faustina Kowalska from 1934 to 1938. Jesus says, “I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day, the very depths of My tender mercy are open… It is my desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter (Diary of St. Faustina, 699).”
Jesus wants us to remember His mercy because it has the power to transform hearts and change lives. When we embrace His mercy, we find peace in our souls and live a life centered on Him rather than ourselves. For this reason Christ says, “Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy (Diary of St. Faustina, 699).“
Therefore, I encourage you this Sunday to honor God’s mercy in your life. Take time to thank God for what He has done in your life. If possible, go to confession and receive Holy communion. Most importantly, rest in His mercy, and allow the love of God to settle deep into your soul and give you an abiding peace and joy. Then go and reflect His mercy in the world.
