It Was Supposed to Be Seamless

Good News Ministries has been working behind the scenes for the past month or two to upgrade our systems and resolve some technical email issues. Our team has spent many hours researching, training, and implementing changes to make our email more secure and accessible. We know how important it is for our ministry to deliver our weekly and daily reflections reliably to your inbox.

Our webmaster recommended that we change our email server, and last week we completed the migration. The new server promised a seamless process— it was not. I spent the entire week wrestling with the setup, making multiple phone calls with staff members to resolve issues, and creating more than 30 email aliases to manage the various addresses that GNM uses to route email.

To put it mildly, it was a giant headache and consumed all of my time. I didn’t even have time to write a newsletter. However, it reinforced the important virtue of persistence. Several of our team members’ emails were flagged as spam, and I had to coach each person multiple times on how to verify their address. No matter how many times the server tried to disable their email, we kept trying until everything was accepted. This process took hours and was very frustrating for everyone involved.

This experience also helped us exercise patience. When one of us was ready to throw the computer out the window, we would say, “Let me take a break, clear my head, and call you later.” To lighten the frustration, we also injected humor into our conversations. I often joked, “The new server website says the transition is seamless.”

With persistence, patience, humor—and a lot of God’s grace—we successfully transitioned our email server last week. It also reminded me that God is present in my struggles and difficulties, just as He is in yours. So if you find yourself battling an email server or facing some other seemingly impossible task this week, take a deep breath and remember that with His help and grace, you will succeed.
