October 14 – Saint Callistus I

Saint Callistus I

listenHoly Lord, Saint Callistus the 1st was a slave who got into serious trouble because of his violent nature.  While doing hard labor for punishment, he reformed his ways.  Once freed, he became trustworthy and honorable.  Soon he was ordained as a deacon to the pope and eventually succeeded him as the next pope.  I ask him to pray for the prison systems that we have today and for those who oversee them.  O Lord, raise up politicians who are inspired to renovate the ways we handle criminals.  Bless the programs that already exist, so that convicts become law-abiding, productive members of society.  Saint Callistus, pray for us.  Amen.

Quote for Today

Pope Saint Callistus (d.223)
Feast Day October 14

quoteIf offences abound, then, let mercy also abound; for with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is plenteous, redemption. In the Lord’s hand there is abundance of all things, because He is the Lord of powers, and the King of glory.”
