August 26 – Saint Elizabeth Bichier

Saint Elizabeth Bichier

listenCompassionate Lord, Saint Elizabeth Bichier (17731838) founded the Daughters of the Cross to form a community that would educate children and care for the sick.  I ask her to pray for the programs that are dedicated to teaching children and ministering to the hospitalized, homebound, and dying.  Inspire those who are in charge of these important works, O Lord, and help them to feel Your affirmation and guidance.  Remind us all that in such programs we are first and foremost serving You.  Teach us how to place the needs of the vulnerable ones in our society above our program’s policies and finances.  Saint Elizabeth, pray for us.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

Blessed Mariam of Jesus Crucified (1846-1878)
Feast day August 26

quoteAlways remember to love your neighbor; always prefer the one who tries your patience, who tests your virtue, because with her you can always merit: Suffering is Love, the Law is Love.”

quoteThe proud person is like a grain of wheat thrown into water: it swells, it gets big. Expose that grain to the fire: it dries up, it burns. The humble soul is like a grain of wheat thrown into the earth: it descends, it hides itself, it disappears, it dies but to revive in heaven.”
