October 3 – Saint Gerard of Brogne

Saint Gerard of Brogne

listenGood Jesus, Saint Gerard of Brogne (c.895-959) joined a monastery in order to find a quiet, peaceful place to spend his time in prayer, although he willingly left his solitude to help others become stronger in their faith.  He believed that if people realized the joy that came from praying, they would pray more often, so I ask him to help me find my own “hermitage,” a quiet place where I can discover the joy of frequent prayer.  Lord, teach me to discipline myself to take time for solitude despite my many activities and distractions.  Guide me in overcoming my laziness and raise the quality of my prayers to a higher level.  Saint Gerard, pray for me.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

Blessed Columba Marmion (1858-1923)
Feast day October 3

quoteFaith is easy when we meet with no difficulty and walk in a way of light and consolation. But when we are struggling with temptation, with suffering and trial, when we are in a dryness of heart and spiritual darkness, then it needs a strong faith to abandon ourselves to God and remain entirely united to His holy will.”

Saint Theodora Guerin (1798 -1856)
Feast day October 3

quoteWhat strength the soul draws from prayer! In the midst of a storm, how sweet is the calm it finds in the heart of Jesus. But what comfort is there for those who do not pray?”

quoteHave confidence in the Providence that so far has never failed us. The way is not yet clear. Grope along slowly. Do not press matters; be patient, be trustful. With Jesus, what shall we have to fear?”
