December 23 – Saint John of Kanty

Saint John of Kanty

Loving God, Saint John of Kanty was unjustly kicked out of a university job and reassigned as pastor of a small church.  The parishioners treated him harshly.  He gradually won their trust by taking a genuine interest in them, never growing impatient, and never getting angry at their hostility.  Though he was strict about his own behavior, he was lenient with others.  I ask him to pray for the people who are currently opposing me.  Teach me, O Lord, how to win them over with kindness and deeds of love.  Help me to forgive them quickly and to remain patient as I wait for You to give them a change of heart.  Saint John, pray for us.  Amen.

QUOTE by Saint John of Kanty

Fight all error, but do it with good humor, patience, kindness, and love. Harshness will damage your own soul and spoil the best cause.
