December 14 – Saint John of the Cross

Saint John of the Cross

listenHoly Spirit, Saint John of the Cross began helping Saint Teresa of Avila to reform the Carmelites shortly after his priestly ordination.  They formed a deep bond of friendship because they shared the same passion for holiness.  I ask him to pray for me to have friends with whom I can share the work of Your kingdom.  Thank You for those You have already given to me.  May we inspire each other to greater spiritual growth and trust in You.  Save us from the evil one who wants to divide us.  Help us to encourage each other through trials and sufferings with a prayerful devotion to the Cross.  Saint John, pray for us.  Amen.

Quotes for Today

Saint John of the Cross (1542-1591)

quoteWhat does it profit you to give God one thing if He asks of you another? Consider what it is God wants, and then do it.”

quoteGod sustains every soul and dwells in it substantially, even though it be that of the greatest sinner in the world, and this union is natural. The supernatural union exists when God’s will and the soul’s will are in conformity. Therefore, the soul rests transformed in God through love.”

quoteThe virtuous soul that is alone and without a master is like a lone burning coal; it will grow colder rather than hotter. Those who fall alone remain alone in their fall, and they value their souls little since they entrust it to themselves alone. If you do not fear falling alone, do you presume that you will rise up alone? Consider how much more can be accomplished by two together than by one alone.”
