Happy New Year from Good News Ministries
Over the past two weeks, I’ve been thinking how fortuitous it has been to have the opportunity to publish a newsletter article on Christmas and New Year’s Day, especially in my first year as the Executive Director of Good News Ministries. These holidays disrupt the normal flow of our lives. Culturally, we’ve been pulled into department stores for gift shopping and holiday parties with family, friends, and colleagues. While these things are all good, we can often feel pulled into the hustle and bustle of the season and have no anchor as we just try to survive.
However, this is precisely why I feel blessed to have the opportunity to send you this message today – New Year’s Day. Because I get the chance to remind you that, amidst all the cultural craziness, God desires to be the anchor in your life. It’s not an accident that the Christmas season spans the end of one year and the beginning of another; it’s a subtle reminder that God is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. He will not leave us orphan or alone – ever. We have to permit Him.
Today, New Year’s Day, we celebrate the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God. Again, this is not a coincidence. Mary is the perfect model for us. Her unwavering “yes” to God’s invitation is something we should seek to emulate. By following her example, and saying “yes to God,” we will discover all the ways He wants to bless us as we begin this year abundantly.
I encourage you on this New Year’s Day to follow in the footsteps of the Blessed Virgin Mary and permit God to be the anchor of your life by saying yes to His plan for you this year.
