Summer Break Silliness
Last week, I sent a text to our GNM group chat to let everyone know that I would be working crazy hours this week because my oldest son, Elvin, is home on Summer Break. As a work-from-home dad, I take care of our children during the workday while my wife works a traditional nine-to-five office job. Since late January, after my wife finished her maternity leave, I’ve been caring for my seven-month-old, Diego.
However, this was the first week (other than an occasional sick day) that I’ve had to “fly solo” with two kids at home and work. I’ve been marveling at how the Holy Spirit has been helping me juggle pouring Cinnamon French Toast Bites, changing diapers, editing videos, and writing emails. At times, I’ve felt silly, but I wouldn’t change a thing!
God is teaching me humility, patience, and trust. Miraculously, no one has missed a meal or a nap. I’ve even played a game of catch in the middle of launching our Sacred Heart Fundraiser. Then, having my plans derailed countless times, I am now working late into the evening to finish this newsletter.
In moments and weeks like these, we come to understand ourselves and our faith more profoundly. I’ve felt supported and loved by God in ways I never could have conceived before, and I’m seeing His presence in belly laughs and interrupted conference calls.
As I reflect late at night on the chaos this week, knowing that in a few short hours it will resume. I have a heart filled with gratitude for a God who has provided for me in every way.
If you are in the middle of a chaotic week, or a burdensome problem. Take a deep breath and pause to find God in it. You may chuckle and feel silly when you realize He showed up just in time to help you stop your five-year-old son from flushing his favorite toy down the toilet.
After you chuckle, make sure you say thank you to God for His love, care, and protection. May God continue to bless you and your families.
