Ants Marching

Last week, I took my five year old son to a free community concert of a Dave Matthews Cover Band. I’m not a huge fan of his music by any means, but it was more about some father and son bonding time.
However, there is one Dave Matthews Band song (which they played to my delight), Ants Marching, that speaks deeply into my heart, because it teaches important lessons about life and opens the door for a moment of evangelization. Its message is something I certainly want to hand on to my son and to you.
I won’t spend the time quoting all the lyrics, but it is worth your time to listen. The song is all about the results of following our fallen inclination to sin; alluding to many failures, like broken marriages and the consequences of ignoring the loving concern of a parent. The chorus makes it clear that the world tells us it is easier to ignore your serious problems by placing these chances to address the situation and root out evil in a box for a “quieter time.”
This is how Satan wins, because He entices us to not address the areas of serious sin in our lives by saying now isn’t the right time to do so, do it later. But ask yourself this, when is the right time to address your faults and failings? Because if you keep waiting and waiting, you’ll run out of opportunities; it will be as the song says, “lights down, you up and die.”
So instead of being an ant blindly marching to the beat of the world’s drum that says ignore all your problems and don’t address the sin in your life; be courageous and strive for personal holiness.
Living with holy boldness helps us transform society, but if our hearts our restless, it is much harder to bring peace to the world. Don’t forget that Good News Ministries has many ways to help you find the peace that only God can provide.
